The First Step to Weight Loss and Health

Where to start…

Last week I dove into the never ending battle of the diet….or the bungee cord as I like to call it.  There are so many plans out there enticing us with the promise of success.  However, none of these plans are equipping us with the tools absolutely necessary for long term success.

So many great plans…

I personally believe most plans are too rigid which sets us up for failure.  Let me rephrase that; we are too rigid.  As soon as we slip up, we figure we blew it and throw that program away.  Check off another failure in the books.  I don’t believe having a plan that you strictly follow will set you up for a future filled with techniques to help you get healthy and stay healthy.  Don’t get me wrong, most of the plans out there will lead you to weight loss, but you need these other tools to keep you healthy long term.

Here’s what it comes down to:

  • Learn the right foods to eat
  • Eat them 80-90% of the time
  • Change the way you think about food and life….a total mindset makeover

The right foods…

Today I just want to touch on the right foods to eat.  There is no secret here.  Most of us have a pretty good idea of what we should be eating.  The majority of our diet should be whole foods; food that has been processed or refined as little as possible and free from additives or other artificial substances.

Having our food be as close to nature as possible is best for our bodies.  I challenge you to open your pantry and take inventory of all of the processed food in there.  These foods are so full of toxins.  Our bodies do not recognize them as food and cannot properly break them down.

Reality check…

That being said, I am very realistic.  We are busy parents, and life sometimes gets in the way.  However, it is not as hard as you think to adjust your meals to be full of healthy, delicious food.  I have attached information regarding whole foods to help you on this journey.  The first step is to take a good look at what you and your family are eating most of the time.  It won’t be pretty…but it is necessary.  Then see what you can eliminate from that good ole pantry!  Commit to incorporating 3 of the foods from the list this week in your meal planning.  It’s not an overnight change.  It’s a process.  And this is just the very first step.
