Time for Change

Change? Why would I do that?

It’s time for a change!  Have you ever thought that you would love to change something in your life?  I don’t think there is anyone out there who hasn’t at one time or another wanted to make a change to some aspect of their life.  So if we all seek change, why are we so resistant to actually take a step forward in that direction?

Fear….We may want to try something new, or take a walk on the wild side (even if it’s just a little stroll), but something holds us back.  It’s the unknown! For some reason the unknown scares the hell out of us.  We would rather live in our uneasy existence than take a little tiny step towards the change we are desperately seeking.

Comfort

Why would we do that? It’s simple…..our current life is comfortable.  It may not be the happiest.  It may be very stressful.  It may be causing you to be unhealthy or even sick.  Yet, we fight against that change.  Over the years I’ve come to realize why we do this.  We don’t want to get our hopes up and actually think this new found life is possible because what if, just what if… we fail.  That is too painful to think about.  So instead we stick with what’s comfortable.  At least with that, we know what we are getting.

Think about it….this is true of most things we’d like to change.  Someone may want to lose weight or become healthier more than anything in the world! They think about it, they dream about it, they picture what life would be like if they could achieve that goal.  We all know the typical outcome with this.  That person will never even try because they are afraid they will fail. Or they’ll do it for a short time, and maybe even see success.  But then they’ll quite and be right back where they were.

The same scenario goes for the person who is unhappy with their career.  Whether they aren’t making enough to pay the bills or they just despise what they do everyday, it ends up the same.  They stay in that miserable job that doesn’t even pay enough for them to break even.  They’ve always thought about trying something new, or taking a risk on that dream job, but more likely than not, they’ll stay right where they are.

How about the dreamer who has always wanted to move to that perfect destination.  There’s no real reason to stay where he is, and he thinks about moving and just starting fresh all the time.  So why doesn’t he? Fear and comfort.  It’s just human nature.

Now don’t get me wrong, we all know those people who have made amazing changes in their lives.  There are loads of them!  A friend who one day decided to change her health habits and stuck with that way of life!  The mom in the neighborhood who took a leap of faith and went for that new career!  Our friend from college who was a free spirit and lived all over the world!  YES! There are lots of examples like this.

Don’t worry….there’s light at the end of this tunnel

The good news is, you can be one of those examples too!

I was one who was constantly contemplating changes in my life.  Like most people, I just never acted on them.  I was a very happy person!  I certainly didn’t need more in my life.  I was beyond blessed with what I had….an amazing husband and 3 wonderful children! Yet there were changes I wanted to make in life.  But fear and comfort always won.  Until one day they didn’t.  I made a huge change in my life, and it has drastically changed our future! From then on I welcomed changed.  It wasn’t scary anymore.  It was exciting!  That is what led me to start this blog.  I have always wanted to be healthier, but I never put my mind to it, because deep down I knew I wouldn’t stick with it.  Once I decided that change wasn’t scary, it was awesome and empowering, I chose to change my lifestyle.  Through this blog, I will tell you how I did it and how you can too.  I’ll talk about making changes and how to stick with those changes.  There will be tips for living an all around healthier lifestyle, recipes, freebies and programs you can follow if you choose.  I’m very real though and will admit I still love nachos and beer on occasion, LOL!  I make living a healthy lifestyle realistic for the normal,  busy, working person.  I’m so excited to have fun with this!!
