The Fourth Type of Eating…Check This One Out

I’m SO Hungry!!  I Can’t Stop Eating…

By now I bet you are getting familiar with the hunger scale.  You are also realizing that I’m right!  I love that part! Ha!  But seriously, you are noticing that if you pay attention to your physical hunger and where it falls on the hunger scale, you probably are not nearly as hungry as you think you are.

This week we are diving into a type of eating we all know well.  I call it “Ravenous Eating”.  This is a regular visitor especially when we are “dieting”.  Think about it…how many times have you eaten as little as possible in hopes of dropping a few pounds?  By lunch you start to feel that hunger sensation.  You may even like that feeling.  It means you are depriving yourself of food, which in turn results in weight loss.

A few hours later…

You are devouring the closest bag of chips, followed by a piece of cake, followed by whatever you can get into your mouth.  This is ravenous eating at its best!  We get so hungry that we literally eat everything in sight.  Clearly this does not result in what we were hoping for. Many people experience this around dinner time.  You come home from work and even though you may be eating dinner shortly, you are so hungry that you just start eating whatever you can find.

Consuming that many calories all at once is never good.  And let’s be honest, when it’s ravenous eating, it is very rarely good calories.  We never feel good after this type of eating.  Even if we stuff ourselves with food we love, we don’t savor it because we eat it too fast.

This type of eating is quite easy to avoid…

Be prepared!  Think about your day and plan for it.  Keep a bag of almonds in your desk drawer or in your purse.  Know how long it will be before you will be able to prepare food again and pack small snacks accordingly.

The best thing you can do to avoid ravenous eating is to pay attention to your body!  If you are feeling physical signs of hunger then you are at -2 on the hunger scale.  Feed your body!  Eat until you are at +2 on the hunger scale.  You will be able to say goodbye to ravenous eating forever!
