Don’t ‘Diet’…Love What You Eat and Still Lose Weight

Enjoyment Eating

Over the past few weeks we have discussed several different types of eating.  I mean who knew there were ‘types’ of eating?  I had never thought about it before.  Eating was eating.  Boy was I wrong about that.  Once I became familiar with the different types of eating it started to change everything.  In the next post we’ll talk about which types are most damaging to us.

Today we get to talk about my favorite type of eating…Enjoyment!  Yes, I said it.  We can actually eat for enjoyment! I know what your thinking… you enjoy all eating.  No you don’t! Go back and look at the other types of eating.  You may like the food you are eating, but you are not eating for enjoyment.

What is Enjoyment Eating?

We all have our weaknesses for certain foods.  Just because we become more conscious of our food and aim to eat healthy, doesn’t mean we can never eat our favorite foods.  Being responsible for your eating means making really good food choices 80% of the time.

Eating for enjoyment is making a conscious choice to eat something you really enjoy regardless if it is healthy for you or not.  While you are eating it, you need to enjoy and savor every… single… bite.  As soon as you are not loving every delicious bite…STOP EATING IT!  You can quickly slide into ‘dazed and confused’ eating if you’re not careful.  Before you know it you have polished off the plate of nachos and don’t even remember eating them all.  You don’t want that to happen.  So pay attention and stop eating once you stop enjoying it.

I have a personal love affair with nachos and spinach dip.  I am completely aware that they are unhealthy.  Knowing this information has absolutely cut down my intake on these two delightfully delicious foods.  However, there are certain times that I just straight up want them.  I do not eat them in a ravenous state of hunger.  I only enjoy them if I make a conscious decision that my desire for it is worth it.  Then I enjoy every single second of eating it!
I fit enjoyment eating into my life regularly. It certainly isn’t nachos and spinach dip all the time, Ha, but I cannot go on a “diet” where I am limited on the foods I enjoy.  I would feel constantly deprived, and without fail I would revert to ravenous eating, and it’s all downhill from there.

Healthy eating is based on balance.  Fitting enjoyment eating into your day will help you to have consistent success!
